I have the luxury to live in Florida and be able to see the shuttle launches and rocket launches at my house near Daytona. Today there was a rocket launch that was headed to the moon. Here is the article on it and some pics of liftoff.
The Delta IV carrying GOES-O lifted off at 6:51 p.m. EDT from Launch Complex 37 at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida. After reaching orbit, GOES-O will become GOES-14. The satellite will be used to monitor and predict weather, measure ocean temperatures, perform climate studies, and detect hazards with its emergency beacon support and Search and Rescue Transponder.GOES-O was built by Boeing for NASA and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Mission lifetime is expected to be 10 years, eight of which will be operational.
